Former NBA player signs with Iraqi club Al-Difaa Aljawie

Darius Johnson-Odom, a former NBA point guard, has recently signed with Al-Difaa AlJawie, a team in Iraq’s Superleague. The 34-year-old veteran will compete in the upcoming 2024-25 season, bringing his extensive international experience to the Iraqi basketball scene.

Johnson-Odom joins Al-Difaa Aljawie after playing for Entente Orleans 45 in France’s ProB league last season, where he averaged 13.9 points and 6.4 assists per game across 16 appearances.

Originally drafted by the Dallas Mavericks as the 55th overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, Johnson-Odom was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers shortly thereafter. A graduate of Marquette University, this marks his 13th professional season in professional basketball.

Johnson-Odom’s career has spanned ten different countries across three continents, including Europe, Asia, and North America. His professional journey has taken him to teams in China, Greece, Italy, Romania, Russia, Turkey, and the United States, where he briefly played for the Los Angeles Lakers and the Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA. He has also competed in the NBA G League and in The Basketball Tournament (TBT) with teams like the Golden Eagles and Loyalty is Love.

As Johnson-Odom embarks on this new chapter with Al-Difaa AlJawie, his wealth of experience and diverse skill set are expected to make an impact in the Iraqi Superleague.
