The Baghdad Business School (BBS) held an inspiring graduation ceremony on October 12th, celebrating the accomplishments of its 4th cohort. Surrounded by family, friends, and esteemed guests, the event recognized the students’ dedication and growth throughout the ten-month program, designed to bridge the gap between education and professional opportunities in Iraq’s private sector.

The ceremony kicked off with an address from Ahmed Al-Tabaqchali, Board Director and Business Lecturer at BBS, who praised the students’ hard work and commitment. Christine van den Toorn, BBS’s Founder and Director, followed with a heartfelt speech that celebrated the graduates’ academic journeys and emphasized the mission of BBS to prepare Iraq’s youth for successful careers in a competitive market.

Special guest Hussein Al-Bayati, General Manager at Careem Iraq, shared valuable insights and advice, encouraging the students to continue striving for success and innovation. Valedictorian Zainab Fouad, founder of Unico Handcrafted Jewelry, gave a passionate speech, representing the graduates and celebrating their shared achievements, highlighting their entrepreneurial spirit.

The highlight of the ceremony came with the awarding of certificates to the graduates. Alongside the formal proceedings, businesses founded by BBS alumni—such as Unico, Haa Store, Dweera, Nova, and Monti Kido—were showcased at a vibrant bazaar. This marketplace not only celebrated the students’ entrepreneurial ventures but also reflected the core values of BBS, fostering innovation and practical experience.

BBS offers a comprehensive ten-month program, providing Iraqi youth with essential skills in time management, communication, marketing, and data analysis. Administered by the Iraq Fund for Higher Education (IFHE), a US-based nonprofit organization, BBS works closely with private sector companies like ZainCash, Earthlink, and Abwaab to offer students valuable professional experience.

This graduation ceremony underscores the broader impact BBS is having in empowering Iraq’s youth to thrive in private sector roles, bridging a critical skills gap and preparing the next generation of leaders for the evolving Iraqi economy.
